Commentary on 1 Chronicles 7:15

Theological / Devotional

Huppim and Shuppim. The meaning of this verse is obscure. Some think that Machir took wives of the clans of Huppim and Shuppim. Others think that the meaning is that he took wives for Huppim and Shuppim.

Zelophehad. According to Num. 26:33 and Joshua 17:3 Zelophehad was the son of Hepher, who was a grandson of Machir.

Theological / Devotional

Shall not depart. A conditional promise that could not be fulfilled because of human failure. The privileges now belong to spiritual Israel.

From Saul. Saul, too, had been promised the kingdom “for ever” (see 1 Sam. 13:13).

Before thee. Literally, “from thy faces,” that is, from thy presence. These promises were conditionally true of David.
