Theological / Devotional

I had baptized. Textual evidence favors (cf. p. 10) the reading “ye were baptized.” The meaning is not essentially altered. Apparently the belief was current in Corinth that a special relationship existed between the one baptizing and the one baptized. Even those claiming to belong to his party could not boast baptism at the hands of their leader. Paul was happy for the stand he had taken with regard to permitting others to do most of his baptizing.
