1 Corinthians 10:8

Neither let us. The command may be translated, “Let us cease committing fornication.” There was a notable case in Corinth at the time (ch. 5). The reference is to the shameful experience of the Israelites at Shittim, where Satan used the Moabitish women to seduce many of the men in the camp of Israel and to influence them to join in the idolatrous worship of the Moabites (see Num. 25:1-5). God had given the Israelites emphatic instructions not to associate with the heathen peoples round about them. He had warned them against the danger of being led away from Him to the worship of false gods (see Deut. 7:1-5).
