Theological / Devotional

These things. That is, the counsel contained in vs. 18-25, where the writer warns against antichrists.

Seduce. Gr. plano, “to lead astray” (cf. on 1 John 1:8; see on Matt. 18:12). The Greek construction makes it possible to translate the last half of the sentence, “those who are trying to lead you astray.” There is no evidence that the false teachers succeeded in leading John’s intended readers astray.
