Theological / Devotional

Omri. While Elah was drinking himself drunk at the house of his steward in Tirzah, he was slain by Zimri (v. 9), and as soon as the word reached the army at Gibbethon, they made Omri king. This incident recalls the favorite practice of the Roman armies, which, when they received word of the assassination of an emperor at Rome, were wont to invest their own commander with the purple.
