Theological / Devotional

The kingdom was mine. Adonijah’s reference to his unsuccessful attempt to secure the throne gives evidence that the matter was still very much alive within his heart. Bath-sheba’s apprehensions seem to have been well founded.

From the Lord. A seemingly pious acceptance of the divine will, but actually an ill-concealed purpose of endeavoring to secure by craft the kingdom which he could not secure by force.
