Theological / Devotional

Which hath established. The scheming of Adonijah was directed not only against man but also against God. It was the Lord who had established Solomon upon the throne as the successor of his father David, but now Adonijah was apparently making plans to found a dynasty through union with Abishag. That must not be permitted. The previous conspiracy had been pardoned, but this new attempt at rebellion against God could not be condoned. Solomon was king by God’s choice, sitting upon the throne of David, which was to be established forever. Knowing that what he was doing was in accord with the will of Heaven, Solomon, with a solemn adjuration, gave judgment that Adonijah be put to death that day.
