Theological / Devotional

Return of the year. Israel’s regnal year seems to have begun in the spring, with the month Nisan (see p. 138). This is the season when military campaigns were set on foot in Mesopotamia and Palestine, and is called “the time when kings go forth to battle” (2 Sam. 11:1). Ahab was advised by the Lord to expect another attack from Syria the following year, after the rainy season of the winter was over.
