Theological / Devotional

Were many. The description of the condition of the people here and in v. 25, as multiplied in numbers and living in a condition of prosperity and peace, is evidently designed to point to the fact that Israel had now reached a place where she was strong and secure, no longer at the mercy of troublesome neighbors, and able to take advantage of the land granted them.
