Theological / Devotional

Turned his face about. According to the book of Chronicles Solomon had made a brazen scaffold 3 cubits high, which stood in the midst of the court, before the altar (2 Chron. 6:12, 13), and it was from there that he addressed the people. Up till this moment, Solomon had been solemnly looking upon the Temple filled with the glory of the Lord. His thoughts had been primarily of God, and his words were addressed to God. Now he turned from the Temple and addressed the vast concourse of people before him.

Israel stood. The people stood in an attitude of attention and respect, and no doubt shared in the gladness and solemnity of the occasion, and were eager to receive the gracious benediction of the king.
