Commentary on 1 Kings 8:57

Theological / Devotional

God be with us. As a God of love, the Lord desires to be with His people. The Temple was built that He might dwell among them (Ex. 25:8; 1 Kings 6:12, 13). Jesus came to the world as Immanuel, “God with us” (Matt. 1:23), and when He departed, His promise was that He would be with His people “alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matt. 28:20). In the heart of every true child of God there is no higher desire, no deeper longing, than to realize the presence of God (Ps. 42:1, 2; Rev. 22:20, 21).
