Theological / Devotional

Chief of the officers. Inasmuch as Solomon had 3,300 officers (see on 1 Kings 5:16), the 550 officers here mentioned must have been of a higher rank. In 2 Chron. 8:10 the number of the “chief of king Solomon’s officers” is given as 250 while the total number of “overseers” is 3,600 (2 Chron. 2:18). Kings and Chronicles are thus in agreement as to the total number of officers, but differ as to the number in each of the two ranks.
