Theological / Devotional

Ophir. The identification of Ophir with Punt is now virtually certain. Punt was probably located in what is now known as Somaliland, on the northeastern coast of Africa. In addition to gold the products obtained from there were almug trees and precious stones (1 Kings 10:11), and possibly also silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks (1 Kings 10:22). There is a record of the Egyptian queen Hatshepsut sending an expedition to Punt to bring back myrrh trees for her temple. The ships of the Egyptian queen also brought back from there ebony, ivory, gold, cinnamonwood, panther skins, monkeys, and baboons.
