Commentary on 1 Peter 3:17

Theological / Devotional

Will of God. Satan — not God — is the author of suffering (see on Job 42:5; Ps. 38:3; 39:9; James 1:2-5, 13). But God knows when suffering is needed for the development of character, and therefore permits it to come (see on Heb. 2:9; 1 Peter 2:19).
