Theological / Devotional

It is the Lord. This Jehovah whom they all had called to witness was the One who “advanced” — literally, “made” — Moses and Aaron. He was the One who protected them from the revenge of Pharaoh, and brought them forth out of the house of bondage. Yet by seeking a king they implied that God could not protect them from the ravages of the marauding bands of surrounding nations even when they were settled in their own cities and were no longer slaves.
