Commentary on 1 Samuel 19:20

Theological / Devotional

Saul sent messengers. Three times Saul’s will was frustrated by the conduct of the men he sent to fetch David to Gibeah (see v. 21). Each group, in succession, was restrained by the Holy Spirit from arresting David, and joined in with the activities of the school of the prophets instead.

Appointed over them. Or, “head over them” (RSV), that is, head of the school.
