Theological / Devotional

The manner of the king. Literally, “the judgment of the king.” The word mishpat, “judgment,” describes the act, or decision, of the shophet, “judge.” The decision of the king is to be accepted as legal and binding. If he feels the need of assistance in the carrying out of his responsibilities, he has the right to commandeer it, whether for civil or for military duty.
