Theological / Devotional

The burdens laid upon him. That is, the prophetic messages spoken against him. The word here translated “burden,” massa’, comes from the root nasa’, which means “to lift up.” From the idea of lifting up the voice, massa, developed “utterance.” Massa’ is frequently used of prophetic utterances (Isa. 15:1; 17:1; etc.) and is twice translated “prophecy” (Prov. 30:1 ; 31:1).
