Theological / Devotional

Jeroboam. The same name as that of the first king of Israel (1 Kings 12:20). He is sometimes called Jeroboam II by present-day scholars to distinguish him from the first Jeroboam. Jeroboam II may have been named after the founder of the kingdom of Israel, and, in giving this name to his son, the father may have hoped that his successor would be a second founder, and bring the nation into a new era of strength and prosperity.
