Theological / Devotional

Images. Heb. masseboth (see on Deut. 16:22).

Groves. Heb. ’asherim (see on Judges 3:7). “Groves” is a misleading translation, for “groves” were placed “under every green tree” (1 Kings 14:23). They were poles, cubic symbols of the goddess Asherah.
