Theological / Devotional

The manner of the God. The gods of the Orient were for the most part local gods, each possessing his own peculiarities (see 1 Kings 20:23). The peoples transported to Israel thought that they must in some way have offended the local gods and that for this reason the lions had been sent upon them as a scourge.
