With their clothes rent. The Hebrews rent their clothes at times of mourning (Job 1:20), and also of great shock or distress (Gen. 37:29; 1 Sam. 4:12; 2 Sam. 13:19; 15:32; 2 Chron. 34:27; Ezra 9:3; Jer. 36:24).
