Theological / Devotional

Serve the king. Fugitives had fled to the neighboring countries of Moab, Ammon, and Edom (see Jer. 40:11), and doubtless were still holding out defiantly against Babylon. Gedaliah now pledged them immunity if they would accept the Chaldeans as their masters. He invited them to return and settle down, to partake of the fruits of the land (Jer. 40:9-12).
