Whence shall I help? The situation was such as to be beyond the help of the king. Joram freely admitted that there was nothing within his power to relieve the woman’s distress. If the Lord did not help her, what was there that he could do in these dire straits?

Out of the barnfloor? Joram, in the irony of despair, calls the attention of the woman to a fact she already knows only too well: that all food, even at its sources, has long since been exhausted.
