It is false. No, they had not even guessed the prophet’s purpose, but they were eager to know. Why try to keep it a secret? Jehu might well reveal the matter to them, then and there. The Biblical record vividly portrays the excited curiosity of the officers concerning the important message they knew had just been given the commanding general of the armies of Israel.
