Commentary on 2 Kings 9:3

Theological / Devotional

Pour it on his head. The commission to anoint Jehu as king had originally been given to Elijah at the same time that he was commissioned to anoint Elisha as his successor (see 1 Kings 19:16).

Flee. The whole transaction was to be carried out quickly and in secret. With his mission fulfilled, the young prophet was immediately to make his departure, not waiting for either interrogation or possible reward.
