Commentary on 2 Peter 1:12
Theological / DevotionalWherefore. This word suggests the anxiety of the apostle and his sense of personal responsibility with respect to the dangers threatening the church in his day.
I will not be. Peter is prepared to fulfill his spiritual responsibility by continuing to teach the truths presented in vs. 3-11. He realizes the necessity of maintaining a firm faith in the truths of the kingdom, and the faithful practice of the duties involved.
Established. Gr. sterizo (see on Rom. 16:25). Peter has carried out his Master’s command (Luke 22:32) by ensuring that his readers are made firm in the faith.
The present truth. Or, “the truth that is present [with you],” that is, in the truth which the readers have been taught. The word “truth” (aletheia) refers to the whole body of Christian teaching in which the believers had already been instructed, and which they “know” (cf. on John 8:32).
