By the morning light. David and his men were wearied from their sudden flight and were given little opportunity for rest. That very night they were again on their way, crossing the Jordan and placing a barrier of water between themselves and the forces of Absalom (see Absalom’s Flight and Usurpation of the Kingdom). When circumstances appeared darkest, David placed his trust in God, knowing that the Lord, who had thus far sustained him, would not forsake him now. The Third Psalm portrays his reactions to this ordeal.
