Theological / Devotional

Barzillai the Gileadite. See ch. 17:27. The narrative here returns to David’s crossing of the Jordan. After the meeting with Mephibosheth, the account of David’s parting with his host, Barzillai, is set down.

With the king. It was a matter of politeness to accompany a guest on a part of his journey. Barzillai proved himself to be a kindly man and a gracious host. Furthermore, he proved his loyalty to David.
