Quench not the light. See 1 Kings 11:36; 15:14; Ps. 132:17. David had frequently endangered his life by engaging in personal combat with his enemies. There came a time, however, when it was no longer wise or necessary for the king to venture into battle with his soldiers, as had been his custom.
