2 Samuel 22:47

The Lord liveth. David here comes to the concluding section of his song (vs. 47-51). On the ground of the victories that the Lord has given him he ascribes praise and thanksgiving to God. The Lord had not forgotten him or forsaken him — He was ever present, the living God (Ps. 42:2; Isa. 37:4, 17; Jer. 10:10; Hosea 1:10; 1 Tim. 6:17), the one “who only hath immortality” (1 Tim. 6:16). God was more than a theory or a mere abstraction to David — he had learned to know Him as a personal Friend and Saviour, and he now expresses his grateful praise to Him for His wonderful deliverance and care.

The rock of my salvation. See Ps. 89:26. David again recalls what God means to him; He is both his rock and his salvation, the God who is his strength and defense and who brings salvation to him.
