Theological / Devotional

Benaiah. At Solomon’s coronation Benaiah, formerly captain over the Cherethites and Pelethites, replaced Joab as commander in chief (1 Kings 4:4).

Chief rulers. From the Heb. kohen, literally, “priest.” The reference here is probably to some secular office. The LXX reads, “princes of the court.”
