Commentary

Commentary on 2 Timothy 2:10

Theological / Devotional

Therefore. That is, because of Paul’s confidence in the verity of Christ’s atonement (v. 8) and in the certain triumph of truth.

Endure. Gr. hupomend, “to persevere,” “to bear bravely and calmly.” For a discussion of the noun form, hupomone, see on James 1:3. Paul knew that the glory of eternal life and the compensation of seeing souls saved because of his preaching were worth the present price of suffering in chains.

Elect’s. See on Rom. 8:33.

Eternal glory. Paul may be comparing the temporary hardship then suffered by Christians with the permanence of their eternal reward.
