Theological / Devotional

We are witnesses. Peter had been with Jesus from the beginning of His ministry. The apostle recognized that the main purpose of his mission was to witness for Christ to men, as the Lord had commanded.

Land. Greek chord, “region,” “countryside,” here contrasted with the city, Jerusalem.

They slew and hanged. Peter represents the crucifixion as mainly the act of the rulers and people of Jerusalem, and not of the Roman governor.

Tree. Greek xulon, “wood,” but used in the LXX and the papyri also for “tree.” Clearly the cross is meant. There does not appear to be any allusion here to the tree of knowledge of good and evil in Eden, as some commentators have suggested.
