Theological / Devotional

Beckoning. Rather “signaling.” Paul waved his hand to command silence and request attention, not to invite someone to come as we now understand beckoning (Acts 12:17).

Men of Israel. Paul’s address at Antioch, Peter’s at Pentecost, and Stephen’s defense are similar. Paul had heard Stephen’s defense; his visions at Damascus (Acts 9:3–7) and Jerusalem (Acts 22:17-21) confirmed Stephen’s truths. He now spoke boldly about the resurrection’s truth.

Ye that fear God. The audience included Gentiles or proselytes (Acts 10:2 ; 13:42).

Give audience. Literally, “hear ye!”
