Theological / Devotional

According to his promise. A general reference to Messiah promises, perhaps especially 2 Sam. 22:51; Ps. 132:11; cf. Acts 2:30.

Raised. Textual evidence favors reading “brought.”

A Saviour, Jesus. The name Jesus means “Jehovah is salvation” (Matt. 1:1). Paul presented Him fittingly as “a Saviour.” The name was probably not unknown even in Pisidia. Jews who had attended feasts in Jerusalem likely heard of Him. Paul assumed some vague knowledge and offered fuller knowledge.
