Baptism of repentance. See Matt. 3:1-12. John’s message was a call to repentance preparing for the Messiah. His baptism signified repentance and remission of sin (Luke 3:3). For distinction between John’s baptism and baptism in Jesus’ name see Acts 19:1-7.
