Theological / Devotional

No cause of death. The Sanhedrin condemned Jesus on blasphemy (Matt. 26:65, 66) but lacked proof (vv. 59, 60). Before Pilate they hesitated to press the charge, stating only that He was condemned as a malefactor (John 18:30). Later they added He deserved death for making Himself Son of God (John 19:7) and for claiming kingship against the emperor (John 19:12). Pilate found no cause of death (Luke 23:22). Christ “did no sin” (1 Peter 2:22).
