Theological / Devotional

Fasted and prayed. The repetition suggests the fast of v. 2 continued. The new command called for intensified spiritual life, with fasting as a normal prelude and accompaniment. A solemn dedication service likely marked the fast’s closing hours.

Laid their hands. See Acts 6:6. As the apostles laid hands on the Seven, so the prophets and teachers at Antioch witnessed to the divine commission of Saul and Barnabas and implored divine blessing.
