Beware. A solemn warning without which gospel preaching is mere rhetoric.

Come upon you. Soon after Habakkuk, the Chaldeans under Nebuchadnezzar brought dreadful punishment culminating in Babylonian captivity due to Hebrew disobedience. Paul warned Jews that rejecting Jesus would bring no better fate.

In the prophets. General reference to the OT prophetic section, including Habakkuk, whom Paul is about to quote (Luke 24:44).
