Theological / Devotional

Judas and Silas, being prophets. See on ch. 13:1. “Prophet” is used here, not of one who necessarily foretells the future, but of one who, being filled with the Spirit, speaks forth for God with unique authority. Judas and Silas were therefore qualified both to exhort and to strengthen the disciples. Exhortation would be needed by the Gentiles. This was the sort of work to which Peter was bidden by his Lord (Luke 22:32), and it was now to be done under the same terms Peter had learned to employ in his dealing with Cornelius.
