Theological / Devotional

In peace. This is the translation of the normal Hebrew salutation of farewell. It does not signify that the men were allowed to go away quietly, but rather that the church’s prayers for their peace accompanied them. Compare Mark 5:34.

Unto the apostles. Textual evidence attests (cf. p. 10) the reading “to those who had sent them.”
