Acts 19:10

Paul then reasoned daily in the school of Tyrannus for two years. Some textual evidence suggests "disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus from the fifth to the tenth hour," possibly using the building during siesta hours when the school was not in session. The school (schole) originally meant leisure, then learned discussion, then the place of study, and finally the followers of a teacher. Tyrannus may have been a teacher of philosophy or rhetoric or possibly a Jew leading a Beth-Hammidrash. The listeners were partly Jews and partly Greeks. Ephesus became the center of Paul's labors, and he likely visited neighboring towns. The growth of the Christian community drew members from Jews and Greeks, reducing gifts to Artemis and sales of her memorials. Visitors carried news of Paul and his message throughout the district.
