Theological / Devotional

Demetrius spoke of their branch of business and the great goddess Artemis, especially called "great" in Ephesus. He feared that if men despised their craft, the goddess would be counted for nothing and her magnificence destroyed. He unconsciously prophesied paganism's doom. Asia was a proconsular province, and "world" referred conventionally to the Roman Empire. Wealth from East, Greece, and Rome supported the shrine.
