Acts 19:5

When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. This was not merely a statement that Jesus was the Messiah but included arguments with Old Testament scriptures proving this truth and showing fulfillment in Him. Though brief, their conviction was not necessarily sudden or without full instruction. Baptism into the name of Christ is the pledge of entrance into the covenant of salvation and intended as a permanent experience. This instance shows individuals rebaptized upon receiving vital new truth, but rebaptism should rarely be administered except in cases like this. Cleansing from sins in daily life is provided by God's forgiving grace through Christ and symbolized by foot washing.
