Came to Mitylene. The city, at one time called Castro, was the capital of the island of Lesbos, then beautiful for its natural situation and its splendid buildings. Lesbos is one of the largest islands in the Aegean Sea and seventh in size in the Mediterranean basin, being 168 mi. in circumference.
