Acts 27:37

In the ship. The ship must have been of considerable size. Ships more than 200 ft. in length are known to have plied the Mediterranean in Paul’s day. It has been estimated that this ship was of about 1,200 tons’ weight (see Additional Note at end of chapter). The fact that the ship had four anchors at the stem (v. 29) and others at the bow (v. 30) suggests a large ship. Since the number on board is stated at this point, and for the first time, it may be that a count was made in anticipation of the abandonment of the ship.
