Laid their hands on. The Sadducean authorities were thoroughly aroused, and the apostles — possibly all the Twelve — were seized.

In the common prison. Gr. en teresei demosia, which may be translated either “in prison publicly” or “in the public prison.” Later, rabbinic use of the word demosia as “prison” favors the latter translation.
