High priest asked. As far as the record shows, the Sanhedrin avoided the topic of the apostles’ release. They either did not believe there was supernatural intervention in this case or demurred referring to it. Their attitude is not surprising, for they had already refused to believe in a greater miracle — the resurrection of the One whom they had crucified.
