Theological / Devotional

Son of man. In the NT outside the Gospels only here and in Rev. 1:13; 14:14. Stephen may have heard it from the Lord’s own lips, or he may have learned it from the early church, since his speech was made before any of the Gospels were written. The members of the Sanhedrin probably remembered that Christ Himself had used this phrase at the time of His trial before them (Matt. 26:64). They had then condemned the Lord’s claims as blasphemous.
